The novelties of the season are Palamós and Valencia, while Mallorca, Castellón, Formentera and Tarifa repeat from 2020
VALENCIA. (23 December 2020) - The Formula Kite Spain Series (FKSS) already has a closed calendar for its 2021 edition. The kitefoil circuit that will be Olympic in Paris 2024 will have six stops next season, which means that it is growing in comparison to 2020, which was closed just three weeks ago in the waters of Tarifa. The circuit was able to complete its calendar in 2020 despite the pandemic thanks to its strength as an organization and the unconditional support of the venues where everything has been easy.
In each of the six events, competitions will be held in the FK Open and F-One FK Amateur modality, and as announced in Tarifa, work is underway to have the Wingfoil Spain Series join some of the Grand Slam format stops.
Since its birth in 2018 the FKSS has not stopped growing. In the first season, there were three competitions, and in 2019 there will be four, and in the season that is now coming to an end, there will be five. The organisation of the event has already closed the calendar for the next season with six events of which four are repeating and two are completely new: Palamós and Valencia.
Smit: "Every stop in 2021 in FKSS will be spectacular"
Sergio W. Smit, FKSS General Manager, comments on the new calendar: "From the organization of the circuit we are very happy with the support we have received from the sailors, venues and destinations to make this new season. That energy is what has pushed us to keep moving forward and that will be reflected in 2021. The circuit will continue to grow in every way and we are sure that each of the stops of the next season will be spectacular. We are also working on some surprises that we are sure will be perfect for the whole FKSS family.
The next venue on the calendar is Mallorca with the regatta taking place in the magnificent facilities of the S'Arenal National Park. This event will open the season on the 19th, 20th and 21st of March and will be held one week before the 52nd S.A.R. Princess Sofia Trophy. Three weeks later, from 9th to 11th April, the action will move to one of the novelties of the season: Palamós. The CN Costa Brava & CV Palamós will be the club hosting the regatta, which will be held from the Playa Gran. The kitefoil action will be in the nerve centre of the town of Girona.
This will be the first cycle of races as the intention of the FKSS, as it has already done with much acceptance by the sailors in 2020, is to group competitions so that international competitors have greater motivation to travel to Spain to compete.
Double Valencian appointment at FKSS 2021
Thus, in the second half of May the activity moves to the Comunitat Valenciana with two one-off competitions. The first one will be in Castellón, from May 21st to 23rd, where the City Council and the Eolo Club will strongly support the regatta that was already a great success in 2020.
And directly from the Gurugu Beach in the capital of Castellón, the 'family' of the Formula Kite Spain Series will move to Valencia from the 28th to the 30th of May, which will host an FKSS event for the first time. In this race the competition will have the strong support of the Real Club Náutico Valencia which will be the venue for the event. The competition will be held from Pinedo Beach, but all the logistics and events will take place in the facilities of the prestigious, historic and dynamic club of Valencia.
After letting the summer pass, giving way to the world and European championships, the competition will return from October 22nd to 24th with one of the great successes of 2020: Formentera. On the paradisiacal island, the support of the Consell Insular and the Club de Vela Formentera was decisive in making this past edition of the race a total success for both the sailors and the public. Once again the race will visit the beach of Ses Salines to the delight of the competitors who were surrounded by a large number of people.
And again the season will close in Tarifa. From the 9th to the 12th of December, the town of Cadiz will be involved in the regatta thanks to the unconditional support of the town council and the KTS Tarifa Kite Club. If in the five previous races the competition will be for three days, in Tarifa will again have four days of racing so the closure of the season will be even more special.
